Shop Local

Here’s me recommending clickforart and thumbtackpress for affordable art and I never even give our local boys a mention. Monstertruck Gallery and Studios offer innovative, fun events and exhibitions, and obviously the chance to own a piece of affordable, contemporary Irish art. Yesterday saw them put on a ‘Bring and Buy Sale’ in aid of the Haiti disaster.

Poster design by James Kirwan, kirwan.james@gmail.com.
Check out their site and blog for upcoming events and buy artwork online, www.monstertruck.ie.

Sale at the Conran Shop at Arnotts

Went into the Conran Shop at Arnotts (www.conranshop.co.uk) today to check out their sale – wanted just about everything in the place. There was 15%-20% off a lot of the stock which obviously still doesn’t make the prices cheap but think of them as investments. Also got to visit my Panthella lamp, one day it will be mine.

(My) Panthella lamp, €445.

Agatha side table.

3 Kois cushion.

Zettl Z5 pendant.

Craig Ward & Typographic Fetishism

A man with a fetish for typography is our Craig. Have come across his work repeatedly over the years and this month he pops up in the If You Could Collaborate exhibition in A Foundation Gallery, Rochelle School in London (www.ifyoucould.co.uk/collaborate). The contributors were challenged to produce something a little unexpected, by working with a partner of their choosing from any discipline, profession or background. The result was collaborations between artists and designers and a range of fashion, furniture and lighting designers – or in Craig Ward’s case, typographers Sean Freeman and Alison Carmichael. The lovechild of this three-way was ‘Calligraffiti’, below. Love it.

Check out Ward’s site, www.wordsarepictures.co.uk, loads of lovely typographic-led design inspiration. I may have just made up the phrase “Typographic Fetishism”, just remember that you heard it here first folks when everyone starts using it.
